Dansul este o modalitate sigura prin care propriul corp devine o forma de arta. Exista stiluri de dans arhicunoscute, conventionale, care vorbesc despre aspecte ale vietii valabile in toate timpurile.
Exista, insa, si tipuri de dans care sparg tiparele traditionale si al caror mesaj se concentreaza asupra realitatii de langa noi sau chiar de la... coltul strazii.
Realitatea de langa noi In aceasta din urma categorie se inscrie si street-dance-ul. Preferat de adolescenti si tineri, acest stil de dans este prea putin cunoscut publicului larg, in ciuda unor evenimente dedicate lui, precum recenta Cupa a Liceelor la street-dance 2008. Nascut in America anilor ´70, la modul general street-dance-ul defineste o serie de miscari de dans care s-au dezvoltat in afara salilor specializate, manifestandu-se in spatii mai putin conventionale pentru dans, precum strazile, curtile scolilor si cluburile de noapte. Street-dance-ul se individualizeaza si prin folosirea improvizatiei, dar si a caracterului socializator - incurajeaza interactiunea cu spectatorii si alti dansatori. "Street-dance-ul reprezinta o forma de cultura urbana, un stil de viata, un aspect al artei contemporane. Cu radacini adanci in trecut, acesta se implementeaza puternic in cotidian, pierzandu-si limitele temporale si spatiale. Acest stil de dans transmite o stare de spirit, poate un pic rebela, ce porneste de la ideea de creativitate. In plus, street-dance-ul este o metoda practica de consumare a energiei in surplus, inlocuind violenta de pe strada si agresiunile fizice prin faimoasele battle-uri - (dansatori individuali, grupuri, cupluri care danseaza in competitie - unii impotriva celorlalti, sub supravegherea unui «juriu» care decide castigatorul). Lupta are, aici, ca principala arma munca sustinuta, talentul, inovatia, gandirea libera, creatoare, mereu in cautare de nou, de senzational", spune Alice Popescu, P.R asistent manager scoala de dans Living Dance - www.street-dance.ro.
In practica... Prin insasi miscarile sale, street-dance-ul vorbeste despre exuberanta tineretii, indiferent de genul dansatorilor. "La ora actuala, Romania nu este destul de culturalizata in ceea ce priveste acest stil de dans. Nu putem vorbi despre o moda, deoarece street-dance-ul, pentru cunoscatori, reprezinta ceva mai profund. Prin miscari, atitudine, vestimentatie, el a creat un veritabil stil de viata. Dansatorii de street dau culoare orasului gri in care traiesc, pentru ca ei creeaza, viseaza si nu se inscriu in tiparele rigide date de o societate inchisa in propriile dogme. Fetele isi pastreaza latura provocatoare, in timp ce baietii dau frau liber laturii mai agresive. Este normal sa existe diferente intre dansatori, insa, mai devreme sau mai tarziu cu totii se reunesc impinsi de dorinta de a dansa", completeaza Alice Popescu. Acest stil de dans este promovat si in practica, nu doar prin vorbe frumoase, dovada evenimentele dedicate lui. Din materialele project managerului Living Dance, Ana Maria Lungu, aflam ca din 2006 aceasta scoala de dans organizeaza evenimente ce au ca scop promovarea culturii street-dance in Romania, din care s-a nascut proiectul Up Events. Din sursa mai sus citata aflam si ca primul eveniment notabil in acest sens a fost National Street-Dance Contest, iar printre evenimentele care au atras atentia in lumea street - dance-ului (dar si asupra sa) se numara Cupa Liceelor (editia I si a-II-a), Bucharest Champions.
